Boneshaker was born of stories. We began in 2009, collecting bicycle stories – tales of life on the road, freedom, friendship and adventure, mixing in mischief, politics and poetry and then laying it all out with plenty of space for beautiful photographs and illustration. These we share with the world in a perfect-bound, advert-free quarterly magazine, proudly printed in Bristol and distributed to art bookshops, bike shops and galleries around the world. We started working in cafés and on kitchen tables, but as the mag and our web shop grew, the need for dedicated space became more pressing.
Our chunk of the Art Space in Bridewell is great, roomy enough for now, sociable but sufficiently private to get some work done. We fit Boneshaker around other work and family commitments, so having flexible access is vital – being yards from Boneshaker’s home-from-home, the cycle café Roll for the Soul, is an added bonus.
We’re always working on the next issue – and the one after that – and on a gently expanding range of bicycle art prints, t-shirts, cycling caps, bags and accessories which we sell through our web shop.
We’re continuing to expand, organically, on our own terms, and now ship to stockists in over 20 countries worldwide. We’re still small, but we’re headed in the right direction. Cycling’s on the up – it’s on a roll and it’s great to feel part of that, part of a growing community with a shared secret: that life is better on two wheels.
